Why Running with a Podcast is the Ultimate Productivity Hack

We all know exercise is good for us—boosting mood, improving health, and keeping us energized. But let’s be honest, running can sometimes feel like a chore. That’s where podcasts come in. Combining a good run with your favorite podcast isn’t just a time-saver—it’s a way to exercise both your body and your mind at the same time.

Double the Benefits in One Activity

For me, running with a podcast has been a game-changer. I’m not just getting fitter—I’m learning at the same time. Whether I’m brushing up on web development with Syntax FM, exploring CSS techniques with The CSS Podcast, or diving into the mysterious world of the dark web with Darknet Diaries, every mile becomes an opportunity to absorb new ideas. What could have been a repetitive activity turns into something engaging and productive.

Turning a Mundane Routine into Something You Look Forward To

One of the biggest barriers to consistent exercise is boredom. Running the same routes can feel dull, and without something to engage your mind, it’s easy to focus on discomfort or exhaustion. A great podcast changes that. It transforms a run into an immersive experience, where you’re so engrossed in a story or learning something new that the miles fly by. Before you know it, you’ve finished your workout and expanded your knowledge.

The Habit That Stick

Making exercise a sustainable habit is about making it enjoyable. If you associate running with learning about something you genuinely love, it no longer feels like a task—it’s something you look forward to. Whether you’re catching up on tech trends, true crime, or history, pairing movement with mental stimulation creates a powerful habit loop.

Try It Yourself

Next time you go for a run, queue up an episode of a podcast that excites you. Start with something engaging, whether it’s a deep-dive interview, an industry discussion, or a thrilling investigative story. You might just find yourself running further and enjoying it more than ever before. And who knows? You might even discover a new favorite podcast along the way.

It's Not What You Eat, It's How Much You Are Eating

Hey! Let me share something that completely changed my perspective on weight loss. When people ask me how I lost weight, they always focus on what I ate. But honestly? That’s not even half the story. The real game-changer was understanding how much unhealthy food I was consuming—especially when I wasn’t paying attention.

The Real Question You Should Be Asking

Think about it—when someone asks you what you ate today, you probably give a vague answer like, “Oh, just this and that,” or start listing a few foods. But if someone asked, “How much of each did you eat?” you might struggle to answer. Most of us don’t actually track the quantity of what we consume, and that’s where the real problem lies.

The Wake-Up Call

During my own weight loss journey, I had a moment of realization. I used to eat Nutella toast for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (yeah, not my best decision!). But here’s the thing—I never actually considered how much Nutella I was spreading on each slice. When I finally measured it out, I was shocked. That small habit was adding up in a huge way.

So, I made a change. I swapped out my Nutella habit for a healthier alternative, and in doing so, I reprogrammed my brain. That one shift led to another, and another. Before I knew it, I had lost 8 stone. I was fitter, healthier, and—most importantly—I felt better about myself.

Small Changes, Lead to Big Results

The key takeaway? Losing weight isn’t just about what you eat—it’s about being mindful of how much you eat. Making small, conscious changes can lead to life-changing results. If you’re struggling with weight loss, start by paying attention to portion sizes and being honest about your habits. You might be surprised by how much of a difference it makes!

Here are some weightloss tips to help you get started to lose weight.

  • Create a calendar and list how much of one food you consume per week. Doing this will allow you to see what and how much your are eating.
  • Don't change your entire lifestyle with a new diet. Reduce unhealthy foods from your diet one at a time. This helps reduce cravings and reduce the risk of failing.
  • Replacing one unhealthy food from your diet with something lower in calories is an easy way to lose weight.
